A quiet month can reduce your gym's income without reducing its bills. Rent stays due, staff still need paying, and a monthly software subscription usually costs the same.
OpenMat has no monthly software subscription. Its platform fees depend on the payments you collect. That can help when income falls, but the right choice depends on your payment volume, processing rates, and the features you need.
What OpenMat charges
OpenMat's published pricing is:
- $0 per month for the software.
- 1% on paid classes.
- 0.7% on recurring membership payments.
Payment processing is separate. Stripe's standard US rate is 2.9% plus $0.30 per successful domestic card transaction. Other cards, payment methods, and account arrangements can cost more.
You can choose whether the gym or member pays the platform and processing fees. Passing fees on changes the member's checkout total; it does not eliminate the fees. See how fee settings work.
How other platforms charge
These are published US prices where verified, checked September 7, 2026:
- Gymdesk: $75 per month for up to 50 active members, $100 for 51–100, $150 for 101–200, and $200 for 201–400. Payment processing is separate; confirm your provider's rate.
- PushPress: Free has no monthly subscription and lists card processing at 4.99% plus $0.30. Pro is $159 per month with 2.89% plus $0.30 card processing. Max is $229 per month with 2.75% plus $0.30.
- Mindbody: Monthly plans are priced per location. Confirm the current price for your region, payment processing, and any add-ons directly with Mindbody.
OpenMat is therefore not the only option without a monthly subscription. Compare the combined bill, including payment fees, rather than the subscription alone.
Two simple examples
Assume the gym absorbs all fees and collects memberships through standard US domestic cards, with no refunds, disputes, or extra services.
A slower month: 50 members each pay $100, giving you $5,000 in collected payments. OpenMat's 0.7% platform fee is $35. At the Stripe rate above, processing is $160, making the combined fee $195. Gymdesk's subscription for 50 active members is $75 before its processing costs; PushPress Free would charge $264.50 at its published card rate.
A busier month: 100 members each pay $200, giving you $20,000. OpenMat's platform fee is $140, and processing is $610, for $750 combined. PushPress Pro would total $767: $159 subscription plus $608 processing. Gymdesk's subscription is $100 for that member count, but its total depends on the processing rate you arrange.
These examples show why a lower subscription price alone does not settle the comparison. They are illustrations, not a quote for your gym.
Choose around your actual payments
A percentage-based platform fee falls when collections fall. A fixed subscription may work out cheaper at higher, steady revenue, depending on processing and add-ons.
