Pricing & fees

Compare pricing
  • How much does OpenMat cost for academy owners?

OpenMat has no monthly subscription fee for academy owners. You can create your account, publish your schedule, manage bookings, and use academy tools without paying a monthly fee. Transaction fees apply only when you collect an online payment.

  • How do fees work for paid classes?

You set the class price and choose who pays each fee: Stripe’s card-processing fee and OpenMat’s 1% service fee. The rates stay the same—you only choose who pays them. Fees paid by the student are added at checkout, while fees paid by the academy are deducted from your payout. OpenMat’s 1% fee plus Stripe’s 2.9% plus 30¢ card fee is close to the roughly 4% plus 30¢ average for Gymdesk and PushPress. By default, the student pays both fees for paid classes. A $10 class costs the student $10.71 and you receive $10; a $25 class costs $26.31 and you receive $25. If you cover either fee, the student pays less and that fee comes out of your payout.

  • How do fees work for memberships?

For recurring memberships, you choose who pays each fee: Stripe’s card-processing fee and OpenMat’s 0.7% billing fee. The rates stay the same—you only choose who pays them. Fees paid by the student are added at checkout, while fees paid by the academy are deducted from the academy payout. By default, the academy pays both fees for memberships, so the student pays the listed price. On a $100 membership, the student pays $100 and the academy receives about $96.10. If the student pays either fee, it is added at checkout and the academy keeps more of the listed price. Exact amounts may vary if your Stripe rate is different.

  • Are free classes completely free?

Yes. There are no payment or transaction fees when listing classes. Posting and sharing your schedule and classes is entirely free.

Getting started

  • What is OpenMat?

OpenMat helps you discover classes, book sessions, manage gym memberships, log training check-ins, and chat with your gym community. Gyms and coaches use it to run schedules, waivers, payments, and member tools in one place — for yoga studios, CrossFit boxes, martial arts academies, and other fitness businesses.

  • How do I create an account?

Use Register with email and password, or Continue with Google where available. Members complete a short onboarding flow, then browse Discover and book classes. Gym owners register as coaches, link their gym or studio on Coach profile, and use Gym Center for day-to-day operations.

  • I registered as a coach—why do I see an account status or setup screen?

New coach accounts show a setup checklist on the Account status page. You can use most coach tools right away. Finish Stripe Connect to verify payouts—after that, your gym can appear in public Discover. Platform admins may review accounts in the background.

  • I'm a gym owner—where do I start?

Open Gym Center from coach navigation for today’s overview. Link your gym on Coach profile, add class templates on Schedule, publish a waiver under Waivers, set up membership plans, and connect Stripe for payouts. The setup checklist on Account status tracks progress.

Class types & disciplines

  • What types of businesses use OpenMat?

OpenMat supports a range of fitness businesses including yoga studios, CrossFit boxes, boxing and martial arts gyms, and general fitness facilities. Each gym sets its own class types, schedule, and pricing.

  • Do I need martial arts experience to use the app?

No. When you sign up, you'll choose a training experience level (Beginner through Expert) so gyms can recommend appropriate classes — not a belt rank.

Bookings & classes

  • Why can’t I book a class that already started?

Booking closes once the scheduled start time has passed. This keeps rosters accurate for the gym. Pick another date or time from Discover.

  • How do I cancel a booking?

Open Bookings, choose an upcoming class, and use the cancel option when available. Refund rules depend on the gym’s policy and how far in advance you cancel.

  • Where is my receipt for a paid class?

In Bookings, open the Past tab. For eligible card checkouts, use View receipt next to the class. Membership subscription charges appear under Membership payments on the same tab.

Memberships

  • What is Membership Plans?

It lists gyms that offer recurring memberships. Subscribing may include class access depending on the plan your gym configured. Manage billing from your profile where linked.

  • My membership status doesn’t look right—what should I do?

Status is synced with your payment provider. If something looks wrong after a successful payment, use Manage Membership from your profile or contact your gym.

Waivers & gym liability

  • Why am I asked to sign a waiver?

Some gyms require a liability waiver before you can book paid classes or memberships. You will see it at checkout when required. That waiver is between you and the gym, not the platform’s own legal terms.

  • I’m a coach—where do I publish waivers?

Use Waivers in your coach navigation to publish and update waiver versions per gym, following your gym’s process.

Account & support

  • How do notifications work?

Open Notifications from the header or profile to see in-app alerts. You can adjust how you engage with the app from your device settings for push, if enabled later.

  • Who do I contact for gym-specific questions?

Contact your gym directly for class pricing, refunds, schedule exceptions, and membership rules at that gym. The gym’s policies apply to your training relationship with them.

  • Who do I contact about legal terms or the Platform?

Read our Terms and Agreements and Privacy Policy (linked at the bottom of this page). For other questions, email companion.bjj@gmail.com. Gym liability waivers are separate from those platform documents.
